CLEVELAND, OHIO – Jameson E. Tibbs, an attorney and intellectual property practice team member at Lippes Mathias LLP, delivered a presentation at the Cleveland Intellectual Property Law Association’s February meeting titled “The remix generation: The right to reuse.” 

The presentation addressed common misunderstandings about copyright and how it works within today’s culture. Jameson discussed the concept of iteration, improvisation, and imitation in relation to creativity and copyright, and provided an IP attorney's perspective on how to protect clients from both being infringed upon and from infringing on others. Additionally, Jameson discussed the impact that Tik Tok has had on copyright, by creating an entirely new ecosystem and reframing the idea of what is and is not in violation of copyright. He also addressed Tik Tok’s use of blanket licensing and how the rampant parody and imitation used on the platform is not exactly the new cultural phenomenon that it may seem. 

Jameson assists clients with a range of IP matters, including copyright licensing, protecting music, art, and software, trademark matters, and patent matters in the technical fields of electrical engineering and computer science, with a specific focus on artificial intelligence and adaptive systems.
