BUFFALO, N.Y. – On Tuesday, April 27, Lauren A. Suttell, Lippes Mathias Wexler Friedman LLP attorney and Not-for-Profit Practice Team Leader, will deliver her presentation “Guiding Non-Profits Through COVID and Crisis Management,” as part of the Bar Association of Erie County’s Continuing Legal Education Program.

The presentation, which will be held virtually from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., will address legal issues faced by not-for-profit organizations in crisis situations, including governance practices and tax-exemption compliance matters, with a particular focus on current concerns and opportunities arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lauren regularly provides guidance to not-for-profit organizations in all aspects of their organization and operation, including, but not limited to, Internal Revenue Code tax-exemption compliance matters (private benefit and inurement, UBIT, and lobbying activities, and reporting requirements) and governance best practices. Lauren also helps not-for-profit organizations structure and implement compliant relationships with for-profit organizations and individuals. Since the Nonprofit Revitalization Act of 2013, she has worked continuously with not-for-profits to facilitate understanding and compliance with the new state policies and requirements. Working collaboratively with the organization’s leadership, she focuses on understanding the organization’s operations, goals, and relationships in order to provide guidance that is practical and effective.
