Gregory T. Myers, a partner in Lippes Mathias LLP’s public sector labor practice team and a member of the firm’s Albany office, was a featured speaker at an Albany Law School labor and employment law lunch and learn on Tuesday, November 13. Myers, an Albany Law alumnus, joined Robert Schofield, managing partner at Whiteman Osterman & Hanna LLP, and Edward Greene, general counsel for the New York State Public Employees Federation, in sharing insights with law students.
The panel covered the distinct aspects of labor and employment law, with the speakers discussing their own career paths in representing employers, employees, and unions. Topics included key differences between labor and employment law, the scope of practice in these areas, and the essential skills that benefit attorneys working in litigation, arbitration, and negotiations. The panel also addressed the influence of unions on employers and as political entities, in addition to providing advice to law students on gaining practical experience and developing an advocacy skillset for entering the workforce.
