BUFFALO, NY – Lippes Mathias Wexler Friedman LLP announced Sean P. Balkin, James P. Blenk, Richard R. Capote, Sean M. O’Brien and Eliza Friedman Shea have been promoted to senior associates at the firm.

 

Mr. Balkin, a member of the Corporate & Securities Practice Team, focuses his practice in the areas of private equity, mergers and acquisitions, investment funds and general corporate matters.  He advises clients on all aspects of middle market acquisitions and dispositions, venture capital investments, corporate structuring, and intellectual property licensing matters.

Mr. Blenk, a member of the firm’s Litigation Practice Team, concentrates his practice in commercial litigation and the defense of municipalities in a variety of matters, including civil litigation and tax certiorari. He also advises municipalities in the areas of municipal law and risk avoidance.  

Mr. Capote, a member of the firm’s Real Estate Practice Team, focuses his practice on the leasing, acquisition, sale and financing of commercial real estate, where he represents sellers, purchasers, lending institutions, borrowers, landlords and tenants with regards to commercial real estate needs.

Mr. O’Brien, a member of the firm’s Asset Receivable Management & Consumer Financial Services and Litigation Practice Teams, defends creditors against individual and class claims in matters where the creditors have violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. Additionally, Mr. O’Brien’s practice extends to white collar criminal defense, regulatory enforcement matters, internal investigations, and complex civil and securities litigation.

Ms. Friedman Shea is a member of the firm’s Corporate & Securities Practice Team and works in the firm’s new Chicago, IL office.  She concentrates her practice on the representation of private companies in all stages of the growth cycle, as well as the venture capital firms and strategic investors that finance those companies in debt and equity offerings.  She also advises business founders on various issues, including structuring, financing, mergers & acquisitions, joint venture agreements and other strategic alliances.  Ms. Friedman Shea previously worked in the firm’s Buffalo office.
